Our Mental Health Programs and Initiatives

We are committed to improving the safety of the industry by raising awareness and providing mental health resources to our members.

Mental Health First Aid

This course empowers participants with the confidence needed to approach someone in need of Mental Health First Aid while also seeking to reduce the stigma surrounding those who are suffering from a mental health crisis. By raising awareness about how to identify someone whose mental health is declining, participants will be equipped with the skills needed to administer Mental Health First Aid until appropriate professional help is received or the mental health crisis is resolved. Learn more and register for Mental Health First Aid.

Peer Support

Peer Support is one of the most effective prevention strategies for maintaining mental health. We have recruited and trained members of the NS construction community to facilitate peer support groups in their workplaces and for our members. The groups will be launching in May 2024, with our inaugural sessions on May 23 & May 30. For more information, and to receive notice when then sign up for sessions goes live, join the Peer Support mailing list.

Creating Psychologically Safe Workplaces

With the September 2024 WCB amendment making gradual onset psychological injury an insurable claim, and the Nova Scotia government becoming the first province to adopt the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, we must be taking the steps to ensure we have psychologically safe workplaces.

The National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (CSA-Z1003-13) is a free framework to create and continually improve a psychologically healthy and safe workplace. Learn more and get the CSA-Z1003-13 Standard.
